Itinerary
DAY 01 – NEGOMBO |BOAT RIDE
Welcome on arrival at Colombo International Airport. Transfer to the coastal town of Negombo that is aprox. 30 minutes from the airport and arrive at your hotel. Negombo is fishing village with a predominantly Catholic community. Afternoon short boat ride on the Negombo lagoon to see the Mangrove forest and fauna in the area,
Dinner and night at Lodge.
DAY 02 – SIGIRIYA
Morning visit the fishing village to see the catamarans return with their catch and sell their catch directly on the beach. Leave for Sigiriya – in the afternoon visit & climb the Sigiriya Rock fortress – the 8th Wonder of the World. This is a World Heritage Site, and it is a rock fortress / palace built on top of a rock rising up to 600 feet. This rock fortress was built by the parricide King Kasyappa in the 5th century AD. On the ascent to the summit of the rock see some of the marvels of this ruined palace, such as the rock paintings or “frescoes” and from the summit one will have a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

DAY 03 – POLONNARUWA | CYCLING
Leave for Polonnaruwa to visit the ancient Buddhist City. Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahminic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden-city created by Parakramabahu I in the 12th century. ‘Galvihara’ is one such remarkable site with 3 statues of Lord Buddha sculpted in 3 different positions out of a single big rock. The Ancient city can be toured cycles.

DAY 04 – KNUCKLES MOUNTAIN
Leave for Dambulla. Visit the Dambulla Cave temple at Dambulla – a serene and scenic temple tucked under a rock that is decorated in the interior by wall murals that cover almost 23,000 sqft of rock surface. This is also a World Heritage Site.
Continue your journey to Knuckles Mountain forest and in the afternoon go for trek with a local guide to see the local flora & fauna.
Stay the night at a lodge.
DAY 05 – KNUCKLES MOUNTAIN |TREK & RIVER EXPLORATION
In the morning do a trek along a small mountain range known as Knuckles Mountain range(1863m). You will pass through tropical vegetation, small farming villages and rice fields that are characteristic of this area. The climate is cool and agreeable to trekking. Bathe at a river known as Telgamu Oya– return to continue your journey to Mahiyangana. Enroute visit the Veddha Village at Dambana – meet the indigenous people of Sri Lanka known as Veddhas and learn about their lifestyle.
Arrive in Mahiyangana for night and dinner at hotel.
DAY 06 – KANDY
Journey to Kandy, the hill capital of the country, this was the last kingdom of Sri Lanka before the island was colonized entirely by the British. Visit the Temple of the Tooth known as the “Dalada Maligawa” where the tooth relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined in a casket at this temple. Many Buddhist pilgrims pay homage and offer flowers in the morning and evening. In the afternoon visit the Royal Botanical Gardens – once the pleasure garden of the Queen of Kandy.

DAY 07 – KITULAGALA | WHITE WATER RAFTING
Morning leave for Kitulgala to do water rafting in the Kelaniya river, ideal place for water sports. Enjoy white water rafting and have the lunch in the bank of the river. Leave for Nuwara Eliya – a cool hill town surrounded be tea estates.

DAY 08 – NUWARAELIYA | HORTAN PLAINS HIKE
Morning after breakfast leave for visiting Horton Plains for a trek along a scenic hill area. You can visit sites such as the World’s End for an elevated view across the mountainous plains. You will have a picnic lunch during the trek.
Then proceed to Ella, a busy hill town where you can do a short trek up Small Adam’s Peak for a spectacular view out to the mountain landscape.

DAY 09 – ELLA / UDAWALAWE | WILDLIFE SAFARI
In the morning leave for Udawalawe. Udawalawe is a national wild life park of Sri Lanka and you will visit the park by jeep for a safari – while on safari you are sure to see Elephants, tropical birds, deer and crocodiles.

DAY 10 – UDAWALAWE/MIRISSA
Morning proceed to Mirissa a coastal town with sandy palm fringed beaches. Arrive at your hotel and spend the day on the beach.

DAY 11 – MIRISSA
Spend the day on the beach OR
**Optional activities include a Whale watching excursion OR Snorkeling.
Whale watching can be arranged as a morning excursion to see Whales & Dolphins on a migratory route that runs close to Sri Lankan shores.

DAY 13 – COLOMBO
In the morning depart for Colombo you can visit the old Dutch Fort in Galle which is a World Heritage site en-route. Free in the afternoon in Colombo.
