DAY 01 – NEGOMBO

Welcome on arrival at the Colombo International Airport by our representative, and transfer to NEGOMBO a little fishing village not far from the airport. It is a sea side resort town with many hotels and restaurants along the beach. Arrive at your hotel. Free time to relax by the pool or on the beach.

DAY 02 – NEGOMBO / SIGIRIYA

Transfer to hotel in Sigiriya. You are free to rest and use the pool. In the afternoon you may visit Sigiriya Rock – the 8th Wonder of the World, this is a palace built on top of a rock rising up to 600 feet. This rock fortress was built by the parricide King Kasyappa in the 5th century AD. On the ascent to the summit of the rock see some of the marvels of this ruined palace, such as the rock paintings or “frescoes” and from the summit one will have a panoramic view of the surrounding. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

 

DAY 03 – SIGIRIYA / POLONARUWA /SIGIRIYA

Early morning drive to Polonnaruwa to visit the ancient Buddhist City – you may tour the area by cycle to see the ancient ruins. Polonnaruwa was the 2nd Capital of the country from the 11th century BC and the well-preserved medieval city has several archaeological sites to view, ‘Galvihara’ is one such remarkable site with 3 statues of Lord Buddha sculpted in 3 different positions out of a single large rock.

Return to Sigiriya and proceed to Hiriwadunna village for riding a buffalo cart, canoeing and having various authentic cooking activities in a village house and you will return by tuk tuk.

DAY 04 – SIGIRIYA/ KANDY

After breakfast leave for Kandy. Kandy was the last Sri Lankan Kingdom before the British took over rule of the entire island. Kandy is situated at an altitude of 500m and is the 2nd biggest city, the market and the shops are interesting to visit. In the afternoon visit the Temple of the Tooth known as the “Dalada Maligawa” where the tooth relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined in a casket at this temple. Many Buddhist pilgrims pay homage and offer flowers in the morning and evening. The relic is taken in a procession with elephants, drummers and dancers along the streets for 10 days, this parade is called the Esala Perahera. The Esala Perahera for 2018 will be on from the 17th to the 26th of August. If your visit to Kandy coincides with the dates of the Esala Perahera you can view the parade with the locals. Rest of the day walk in the city and late evening see the traditional kandyan dance show which depicts the rituals of ancient Sri Lanka.

DAY 05 – KANDY / PERADENIYA / NUWARA ELIYA

After breakfast proceed to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, once a pleasure garden of the Queen of Kandy this garden with over 60 hectares has one of the best exhibits of tropical orchids.

Then continue towards Nuwara Eliya, known as “Little England” with its climate and the environment, en route you will be able to visit a tea factory and taste different types of Ceylon tea. Rest of the day visit a local market and walk along the beautiful river bank rich with various flowers.

DAY 06 – NUWARA ELIYA /NANUOYA / BANDARAWELA

Morning you can play a traditional Sri Lankan sport called “Elle” with the participation of all group and the guide will explain its rules.

Then transfer to Nanu Oya station, where you can take the train to arrive at homestay to spend the night and also you can participate for preparing the dinner with them including cooking demonstration.

DAY 07 – BANDARAWELA / ELLA / UDAWALAWE

After breakfast proceed to visit small Adam’s peak which offers a panoramic view of the region and very famous among the tourist. Then continue towards UDAWALAWE arrive at your camp site, afternoon visit the National park for a safari. Udawalawe is known for its herd of elephants, you will also see wild buffalos, wild boar and many birds.

DAY 08 – UDAWALAWE / MIRISSA

Morning you can participate to play the game of carrom, which was introduced by India but by today it’s a very famous game in the south Asia. Then proceed to visit Elephant orphanage, where the baby elephants are cared for till released to the wild when older.
